How and where do I get an HIV test?

Even if you have put yourself at risk of HIV transmission, HIV infection is not inevitable. Most people in these circumstances will test negative (in other words, not have HIV). But it is definitely worth having a test and checking. If you do have HIV, a test in good time will ensure you get excellent treatment and care. This will enable you to live a full, healthy and productive life.

HIV tests are confidential. It is possible to access 'rapid tests' where you can get the result there and then. The fpa website has a list of clinics which test for HIV:

If you have concerns and want to talk to someone on a confidential basis do ring the THT Helpline on 0845 1221200.
